Yesterday, today, tomorrow of broken dreams

This is what I aspired for when a planted  tiny, 30 centimetres tall yesterday, today, tomorrow plant five years ago:

 
When I planted it in October 2009, it looked like this:


Today, pretty much exactly five years later, it looks like this:

 
 Notice any difference?

Of course not. That is because today my yesterday, today, tomorrow plant looks exactly as it looked five years ago.

If at least it were to wither, I could eradicate it with a clear conscience. But no, that would be too simple. Instead, it loses most leaves in the winter, regains them in spring - and flowers. And who could kill a plant that flowers so beautifully, with fragrant flowers to boot! Not me...
